The Ardex approach
How Ardex Underlayments and Overlays Solve Slab Problems
A concrete slab that is out of plane, cracked, or uneven will show through any topcoat. Ardex K-15 and K-60 self-leveling underlayments flow to a flat, stable base that accepts decorative finishes without the slab telegraphing through.
For existing concrete that is tired or damaged, Ardex overlays (Feather Finish, SD-M, WJ-50) bond to prepared slab and lay down a thin, seamless new surface. No tear-out needed. Ardex repair mortars patch spalls and rebuild edges before any finish goes on top.
In wet environments, Ardex waterproofing membranes seal below-grade and wet-room slabs. The same Ardex prep system underpins our epoxy garage floor and polished concrete floor work across Pittsburgh.
Installation sequence
The Ardex Install Process in Pittsburgh
-
Assess and select the product
We evaluate the slab condition, moisture profile and the topcoat planned, then specify which Ardex line (underlayment, overlay, repair or waterproofing) fits the job.
-
Prepare the concrete base
The slab is mechanically profiled to the Ardex spec, moisture tested, and primed with the manufacturer's primer system, not a substitute or shortcut.
-
Apply the Ardex system
We install primer, body coat or self-leveler, and finish or waterproofing layer in sequence, at the temperature and cure times the Ardex spec requires.
-
Document and hand off
Each layer cures per schedule before the next is applied. You receive product data sheets and the install record so the warranty is enforceable and complete.
Certified installer advantage
What Ardex Certified Installer Status Delivers
An Ardex Certified Installer has been trained on the product system, knows the failure modes, and installs to the full manufacturer warranty. For you, that means the work is done the way Ardex tested it to perform.
We apply the same standards-first approach to every brand we install, including Mapei, Sika, and the full lineup of concrete products we stock and use. Proper prep, proper primer, proper topcoat. No shortcuts.
