Pittsburgh Driveway Concrete Built for Winter

Your driveway takes the hardest use and the harshest weather. We build it on a solid excavated base, pour it to the right thickness with an air-entrained mix, and finish it in broom, exposed-aggregate, stamped or colour. Every job starts with a free written estimate and a firm completion date.

  • Excavated and compacted base
  • Air-entrained mix for freeze-thaw
  • Broom, exposed, stamped or colour finish

Site preparation

Why Driveway Base Prep Matters Most

The slab itself is only half the story. A driveway that stays flat and crack-free begins with the ground beneath it. We excavate to the right depth, remove any soft or unstable soil, and compact a granular base in lifts so it settles evenly and drains water away from the house.

Once the base is solid, we set forms to the finished grade and slope, then place an air-entrained concrete mix designed to flex through Pittsburgh's freeze-thaw cycles. The slab is finished to your choice of texture, and control joints are saw-cut on a planned grid so any shrinkage follows a clean line instead of cracking randomly.

If your existing slab is still structurally sound but showing age, driveway resurfacing can extend its life at a fraction of the cost of a full replacement. We assess both options during a free site visit and can also handle sidewalk and walkway work on the same project.

The sequence

How We Install Concrete Driveways in Pittsburgh

  1. Remove the old slab

We break up and haul away the existing driveway, then excavate to the proper depth and check drainage so water runs away from the foundation.

  2. Compact the base

Granular material is placed and compacted in layers, then forms are set and staked to the finished elevation and slope.

  3. Place and finish

The air-entrained mix is placed, screeded flat, and finished to your choice of broom, exposed-aggregate, stamped or colour.

  4. Joint and cure

Control joints are saw-cut on layout, the slab is cured, and you receive a schedule for when it is safe to walk and drive on.

Surface options

Choose Your Driveway Finish in Pittsburgh

The finish is what you see and touch every day. A brushed finish is the standard choice, affordable and easy to maintain through winter months.

Exposed aggregate washes away the surface paste to reveal the stone, giving grip and texture. Stamped concrete presses a pattern into the fresh slab that mimics flagstone, slate or brick. Coloured concrete tints the entire slab to complement your home's exterior. We bring finish samples to every estimate so you can see them in natural light before committing.

Common questions

Driveway Questions Answered

Pricing, thickness, finishes and timeline for concrete driveways in Pittsburgh.

Several things: the finish, the slab thickness, the base condition, site access, and how much old concrete has to come out. A broom-finish driveway generally runs $9 to $14 per square foot in Pittsburgh, with stamped, exposed-aggregate or coloured finishes higher. Every quote is written and itemised after an on-site measure.
Yes. We handle tear-out of the old slab, haul-away, excavation and re-grading, then rebuild the gravel base before any forms go down. Driveway repair and resurfacing is also an option when the slab is structurally sound.
Most Pittsburgh residential driveways are poured at four inches over a compacted granular base, stepped up where heavier vehicles park or turn. We confirm the thickness and any reinforcement on the site visit based on use and soil.
You can usually walk on it within 24 to 48 hours. Wait about seven days before light vehicle traffic and 28 days for full design strength. We give you the exact cure schedule at handoff.
Broom and exposed-aggregate finishes shed water and hide wear well; stamped and coloured finishes look sharper and want resealing every few years. Sealing is what keeps salt and water out of any finish.

Old driveway was heaved and cracked corner to corner. They rebuilt the base properly and the new broom-finish slab has stayed dead flat through a full winter.

Went with exposed aggregate and it looks sharp. The crew brought samples to the estimate so we knew exactly what we were getting before the pour.

Widened the driveway for a second vehicle and tied it into the original cleanly. You would not know it was two pours, the colour and finish match.

Quoted a resurface instead of a full tear-out because the slab was still sound. Saved us money and they were upfront about it from the first visit.
