Pittsburgh Concrete Patios That Drain Right

Your backyard becomes an outdoor room when you have a solid, level place to stand. We excavate, compact the base, slope the slab away from the house, and finish it in stamped, exposed-aggregate or plain concrete. Fenced yards with tight access are no problem, we pump over the fence or run wheelbarrows. Every project starts with a free written estimate.

  • Proper slope keeps water away from the house
  • Three finish options to match your budget
  • Fenced yards handled with pump or wheelbarrow

Foundation matters

Why Concrete Patio Base Work Comes First

A patio that lasts through Pittsburgh winters starts below grade. We excavate to proper depth, lay a compacted granular base, and set forms with a two-percent slope away from the house so rain and snowmelt shed instead of pooling or running toward the foundation.

The concrete mix is air-entrained to handle freeze-thaw cycles. Control joints are cut on a grid that matches the shape of the space, and on a stamped slab those joints disappear into the pattern. The result is a flat, durable surface that stays level under furniture and foot traffic.

We tie the patio into the rest of your yard, connecting it to driveways, steps, and walkways so the whole property reads as one cohesive concrete system.

The sequence

How a Concrete Patio Gets Built

  1. Site visit and access plan

We walk the yard, measure the area, confirm the slope direction, and decide whether a truck can back in or if we pump and wheelbarrow the concrete.

  2. Excavate and prepare the base

The area is dug out, a compacted granular base is laid, and forms are set to the finished height and drainage slope.

  3. Pour, screed and finish the slab

We place the air-entrained concrete mix, screed it flat, and apply your chosen finish: stamped pattern, exposed aggregate, or plain broom.

  4. Cut joints, cure and hand over

Control joints are cut on layout, the slab cures per schedule, and we leave the yard clean with a date when the patio is ready for use.

Three styles

Choose Your Patio Finish

Budget and aesthetics guide the choice. A plain broom-finished patio is the most economical option, offering a clean, slip-resistant surface that works with any furniture or grill setup.

Stamped concrete presses slate, flagstone or wood-plank patterns into the slab for a high-end look, while exposed aggregate washes back the surface to reveal the stone for natural texture and traction. If your existing slab is sound but tired, patio resurfacing refreshes it without a full tear-out.

Common questions

Concrete Patio Questions, Answered

Cost, access, finishes and timing for a concrete patio in Pittsburgh.

Concrete patios in Pittsburgh generally run $12 to $20 per square foot depending on the finish, the size and access to the yard. A plain patio sits at the low end; stamped work runs higher. Every quote is written and itemised after a site measure.
Yes. Most Pittsburgh backyards are reached with a concrete pump or wheelbarrow runs when a truck cannot back in. We check access on the free estimate and build the method into the quote, so a narrow gate is not a dealbreaker.
We build a deliberate slope away from the house into the base and forms, usually around two percent, so rain and meltwater run off instead of sitting on the slab or draining toward the foundation.
All concrete moves, so we control where. A compacted base, an air-entrained mix and control joints cut on layout keep shrinkage in the joint line. On a stamped patio those joints tuck into the pattern.
Most patios are placed in a day. You can walk on it within 24 to 48 hours and put furniture out after about a week. We give you the exact cure schedule when we hand it over.

Stamped a slate pattern across the whole patio. The colour matched the sample and the joints disappear into the pattern, exactly like they said they would.

Our yard has a narrow side gate so I assumed concrete was out. They pumped it over the fence and the patio drains away from the house perfectly.

Went with a plain broom finish to keep the budget down. It is flat, clean and the furniture sits level. No regrets going simple.

Resurfaced a tired old patio instead of tearing it out. Looks new, cost a fraction of a full replacement, and they were honest that the slab was still good.
