Why Commercial Concrete Floors Crack (and How We Stop It)
A commercial floor takes punishment every day: forklifts, hand trucks, dropped pallets, constant cleaning and thermal shock. When the slab cracks, it's usually because the concrete was too thin, the mix wasn't strong enough, or the control joints weren't cut where the stress naturally wants to break. A properly engineered commercial concrete floor starts with the right thickness and strength, a flat surface within tolerance, and joints laid out so cracks stay in the joint instead of running across the floor.
That same logic applies to the rest of the site. Parking lots need proper grading and base prep so water doesn't pool and freeze. Loading dock aprons need to be sloped and sealed so trucks don't sink the edge. Decorative concrete for entries and plazas needs the right finish so it stays slip-resistant and looks sharp.
The work is always scheduled in phases so you stay open. We pour off-hours or overnight, stage the site so one area cures while another stays in use, and hand back each section with a clear date for when it carries full traffic.
How we work
From Site Walk to Handoff: Your Commercial Concrete Project
-
Site assessment and quote
We walk the site with you or your GC, review the drawings and specs, check access and existing conditions, then return a written, itemized quote with a schedule.
-
Phasing and off-hours planning
We build a pour plan that fits your operating hours, staging the work in phases or overnight so the business keeps running while we form and pour.
-
Excavation, base, form and pour
Our crew handles site prep, base compaction, reinforcement, forming and the concrete pour, then finishes to the specified flatness and cuts control joints on layout.
-
Cure, cleanup and sign-off
We cure the slab, clean up the site, walk the work with you, and hand each area back with the date it carries full traffic and load.
Common questions
Commercial Concrete Questions, Answered
Scheduling, downtime, flatness specs and working with your GC on a commercial concrete project in Pittsburgh.
Repoured the storefront sales floor in two overnight phases. We never closed a day, the polished finish is dead flat, and the joints line up with the fixtures.
New kitchen and patio slabs on a tight reno schedule. They worked around our inspections, kept the site clean, and hit every date they gave us.
Loading dock apron was cracking and ponding. They tore it out, regraded it, and the new apron drains clean and takes the trucks without a complaint.
Polished the lobby and corridor floors over a long weekend. Low dust, easy to maintain, and tenants walked in Monday like nothing happened.
