Pittsburgh Warehouses Need Epoxy Flooring Built to Spec
Epoxy flooring is not a paint job. It is a layered system: slab prep, primer, body coat, topcoat, and aggregate where slip matters. Each layer bonds to the one below. We specify the system to your traffic load, chemical exposure, and wash-down frequency, then install it in sequence with proper cure time between coats. Free written estimate.
- Layered system, not a topcoat alone
- Slab prepped to system spec

The real failure point
Why Epoxy Flooring Fails in Pittsburgh Facilities
Most commercial epoxy failures trace back to one cause: the concrete slab was not prepared to the system's specification. A coating applied over a slab that is contaminated, uneven, or holding moisture will lift, blister, or peel within months, regardless of the epoxy's quality. The slab is the foundation; the epoxy is the wear layer.
Our process starts with diamond grinding the slab to the manufacturer's profile, removing old coatings, contaminants, and surface laitance. We test for moisture vapor and apply a mitigation primer where needed. Cracks and joints are filled with a compatible material. Only then do we apply the primer, body coat, and topcoat in the correct sequence, with full cure time between each layer. Slip-resistant aggregate is broadcast into the body coat where the use demands it.
This same approach applies to all our commercial floor systems, our broader commercial concrete portfolio, and the parallel residential epoxy garage floor work. When an epoxy system has already failed, commercial floor repair is often the path forward.

How Pittsburgh Concrete Installs Epoxy Flooring Systems
-
Assess and specify the system
We evaluate the slab condition, the intended use, chemical exposure, traffic volume, slip requirements, and wash-down frequency, then specify the epoxy system, primer, body coat, topcoat, and aggregate that meet all those demands.
-
Diamond-grind and prep the slab
The existing concrete is diamond-ground to the system's prep profile, removing old coatings, contaminants, and laitance. Moisture testing is performed; where vapor is high, a moisture-mitigation primer is applied first.
-
Apply primer and body coat
The primer is rolled across the prepped slab to establish adhesion to the concrete. The body coat is applied at the specified thickness. Slip-resistant aggregate is broadcast into the wet body coat where the use case requires it.
-
Topcoat and return to service
The topcoat is applied to seal the system and provide the wear surface. The floor cures to the manufacturer's schedule. We provide a clear return-to-service timeline so you can plan around foot traffic, vehicle traffic, and chemical exposure.
System selection matters
Choosing the Right Epoxy System Extends Floor Life
Commercial epoxy systems vary widely in chemical resistance, abrasion rating, temperature tolerance, and slip classification. A system specified for light office traffic will fail in a service bay with hot tires and automotive fluids. A system rated for dry environments will blister in a wash-down kitchen. We specify based on the actual use, not the lowest cost that fits the budget.
When the epoxy install is part of a larger renovation, we coordinate with adjacent polished concrete in office zones and loading dock concrete outside the building so all floor systems transition cleanly.

What Pittsburgh Operations Say About Their Commercial Epoxy Floors
Three contractors quoted slab prep as a paint roller and a primer. Pittsburgh Concrete quoted diamond grinding and explained why. Two years in, floor is still tight to the slab, no peeling.
Service-bay system rated for hot tires and automotive fluids. Wash-down works, no spalling at the floor drains, and the slip aggregate is doing its job in winter.
They specced the system to the actual chemical exposure in our plant, not the cheapest option that fits the budget. Worth every dollar; the previous floor had failed in 14 months.
Coordinated install around our shift schedule. Floor was returned to service at the timelines they quoted, no surprises, no slipped delivery dates. Real professionals.
