Static-Dissipative ESD Flooring for Pittsburgh Plants

When sensitive electronics sit on your factory floor, static charge from workers, carts, and equipment can destroy components before they ship. A properly engineered ESD floor absorbs that charge and routes it safely to ground. Pittsburgh Concrete installs dissipative concrete systems with measured resistance ranges that meet ANSI/ESD specs, grounded to your building electrical, and verified after cure. Free written estimate on every project.

The ESD spec

Why Static Dissipation Requires Precision

A floor that conducts electricity too well creates electrical hazards. A floor that insulates too much lets static build up faster than it drains. The ESD sweet spot is dissipative: resistance in a narrow band that lets charge flow to ground at the right speed, protecting components without creating shock risk.

We start by confirming your facility's ANSI/ESD standard (electronics manufacturing, clean rooms, and pharmaceutical assembly each have their own specs). Then we install a matched epoxy system with conductive fillers loaded to hit that resistance window. After the concrete cures, we test across multiple points with a megohmmeter and hand you documented proof that the floor meets spec.

Our heavy-duty manufacturing floors and chemical-resistant epoxy systems often run alongside ESD zones in the same facility. We also serve EV battery clean rooms with the same precision approach.

How We Build ESD Flooring in Pittsburgh

  1. Spec the standard and grounding

We review your ANSI/ESD requirement, identify which zones need coverage, and work with your electrical team to plan the ground connection points and copper strip layout in the concrete.

  2. Prepare slab and embed grounds

The concrete slab is ground to the system profile, copper ground strips are set at engineered spacing, and connections to the building electrical ground are installed per spec.

  3. Apply ESD epoxy system

The dissipative epoxy (primer, body coat, topcoat) is applied with conductive carbon black and aggregate at the right loading to land in the target resistance range.

  4. Test and document

After full cure, we megohmmeter-test the finished floor at multiple points, record the resistance readings, and provide you with a compliance report for audits and recertification.

The proof is in the test

Megohmmeter Verification Closes the Loop

An ESD floor that looks right but fails the resistance test is worse than useless. It creates a false sense of protection and can expose your facility to compliance violations. We never hand off an ESD project without megohmmeter readings across the finished floor, documented in a report you can show auditors.

The verification step also catches any installation issues before the zone goes live. If a reading falls outside spec, we identify the problem and correct it before you start production. Coordinate with your electrical contractor on the ground scheme, and with our team on phasing if you have dust-proof sealing or warehouse floor coating in adjacent zones.

Common questions

ESD Flooring Questions, Answered

Resistance ranges, grounding, verification and which manufacturing zones need ESD.

With a megohmmeter (high-resistance ohmmeter) at multiple test points across the floor, comparing to the ANSI/ESD standard's specified range. The reading needs to fall inside the dissipative window, not too low (conductive) or too high (insulating).
Only zones where ESD-sensitive components are handled. Electronics assembly, clean rooms, repair benches, certain pharmaceutical processes. The rest of the facility uses standard manufacturing flooring. We define the zones with you and your safety/engineering team.
Copper ground strips embedded in the floor at the engineered spacing connect to the building electrical ground at designated points. The electrical contractor coordinates with us on the connections and verifies the grounding scheme.
Many years with proper maintenance. ESD-compatible cleaning chemicals preserve the system; standard wax or solvent-based cleaners can compromise the resistance range. The maintenance protocol is part of project handoff and includes recertification cadence.
Similar to other epoxy systems plus the grounding install and verification steps. A typical zone takes a week to install and verify; multi-zone facilities stretch to several weeks with phased install. The schedule is in the quote.

★★★★★

ESD floor installed and verified across our assembly zone. Resistance documentation supported our customer compliance audit. The system has held for two years of daily operation.

Z. X4
Electronics Plant Manager, Pittsburgh
★★★★★

They knew the ANSI/ESD spec cold, coordinated with our electrical contractor on grounding, verified with the megohmmeter at handoff. No improvisation, no audit findings.

Y. X4
Production Engineer, Aliquippa
★★★★★

Stricter clean room ESD spec, they hit it. Documentation, grounding, verification all in order. The auditor specifically called out the install quality.

Q. X4
Clean Room Operations, Monroeville
★★★★★

Phased ESD install during off-shifts so production never stopped. Each zone verified before reopening, no resistance drift between zones. Real coordination.
