Structural BASF MasterSeal Waterproofing for Pittsburgh Projects

When a foundation, plaza deck, or underground structure needs to stay dry for decades, MasterSeal is the membrane system that engineers specify. We install the full BASF protocol: substrate prep, primer, membrane application, and protection layer. Free written estimate with firm schedule.

Application scope

Where MasterSeal Waterproofing Performs

MasterSeal is BASF's answer to structural waterproofing challenges where failure is not an option. Multi-storey buildings with below-grade levels, plaza decks that sit above occupied space, underground parking structures, tunnel work: these are the applications where the membrane must function for the life of the structure.

We work as a BASF-system installer, meaning we follow the full protocol from substrate assessment through final documentation. Primer, membrane thickness, joint detail, protection layer, and warranty support all flow from BASF's specification. The engineer's design drives our install sequence.

On projects with multiple BASF products, we coordinate MasterTop epoxy systems for interior floors and MasterFlow grout for equipment baseplates. When the spec calls for Sika waterproofing or Ardex membranes instead, we deliver to that standard.

Installation sequence

How MasterSeal Installation Unfolds in Pittsburgh

  1. Assess substrate and select system

We evaluate the concrete surface, existing cracks, joint locations, and exposure conditions. The engineer's spec determines which MasterSeal product (sheet, liquid, or hybrid) and thickness is required.

  2. Prepare surface per BASF standard

Concrete is cleaned, any cracks are repaired with compatible material, and joint areas are isolated. Surface profile and moisture content are verified before primer application.

  3. Apply primer and membrane

BASF primer is rolled or sprayed, then the MasterSeal membrane is applied at the engineered thickness. All joints, penetrations, and transitions are sealed per detail drawings.

  4. Install protection and document

Where required, the protection layer is installed to shield the membrane from backfill or traffic. The system is photographed and documented to support BASF warranty registration.

Engineering coordination

Why Structural Waterproofing Demands Precision

Most MasterSeal projects involve a structural engineer because the waterproofing is part of the load-bearing assembly. The engineer specifies the product, thickness, and installation detail. Our role is to deliver that specification with documentation that satisfies structural review and supports the warranty claim.

If the project includes other BASF services, we integrate BASF product lines seamlessly. MasterFlow non-shrink grout for equipment pads, MasterTop floor systems for interior spaces, and MasterSeal for the structural envelope all work together under one BASF protocol.

Common questions

MasterSeal Questions, Answered

System types, structural engineer coordination, warranty and protection.

Below-grade structural waterproofing on commercial or institutional projects, plaza decks over occupied space, and any application where the engineer specifies BASF. We install when MasterSeal is specified rather than recommending it over alternatives.
Most MasterSeal projects do, because they involve structural assemblies. The engineer specifies the product and the install detail; we deliver to that spec with documentation.
For below-grade and traffic-exposed applications, yes. The membrane needs physical protection from backfill or traffic; the protection layer is what keeps the membrane functional through service.
Yes, system warranty applies when installed by a BASF-system installer to BASF spec. We deliver the documentation that supports the warranty submission.
Depends on area and system. Foundation walls can be done in days; large plaza-deck systems with multiple layers stretch over weeks. The schedule is in the quote.
